Open Mic #117

I’m done. This will be the last open mic blog.
I need to spend some time just appreciating music.

When I first started this website, I wanted to get my music out to as many ears as I could.
Now I just want to play for the sake of playing.
I started this blog as a way to generate more traffic to my site, I figured no one would come to my site unless there was some dynamic content.

Now I’m less concerned with who comes to my website.

Over the last few years I’ve logged away over one hundred open mics that I’ve played.
This may seem like a lot or just a few depending on who you are.

I will still play open mics and shows and I will always continue to play music.

I’m not really going anywhere, I’m just done doing these blogs for now.

On Monday, July 23, I was at Reality Kitchen in Eugene Oregon.
I was the last one on the list, I played: “Song to the Siren” by Tim Buckley and then I moved over to the piano and played “Maybe Not” by Cat Power.
When I was playing my first song a cat came in the room and jumped up on my lap, it was purring and nuzzling against me and my guitar, at one point it shoved it self between my hand and the strings of the guitar.
This was a nice little open mic and I’ll probably check it out again in the future.

After finishing up at Reality Kitchen my friend Hans and I walked over to the Maize Lounge to play their last ever open mic.
A week later they shut their doors for good.
I’m glad that we stopped in.
Scott Austin was up right before me and Hans was right after.
I played: “Song to The Siren” by Tim Buckley, “A Letter To Elise” by The Cure, “You’re A Big Girl Now” by Bob Dylan and “Lost Words” by Me.
Later I got up and sang a song with Hans.
I’m really sad that this venue closed.
This was one of my favorite open mics I ever played.

So there you have it.
It’s not April and I’m not fooling.
This is the last.
Thanks for your support and thanks for listening.

Two New Recordings

This is two recordings of me playing at Mulligan’s Open Mic.
The first is a song that I wrote quite a while ago and I’ve been playing around with again.
The second is a cover of Creep by Radiohead.
Enjoy!

Open Mic #115

Wednesday, June 27th 2012, I was at Mulligan’s Open Mic in Eugene Oregon.

Chris Cook called me up to sing with him and Cris Hardy for his last song.

When it was my turn I played:  ”Trails Of Paranoia” by Me, “MJ” by Me, “One More Cup Of Coffee” by Bob Dylan and “Ice Cream” by Me.

A man was playing video poker while I was playing and he won $750!

I guess my music is good luck to some :-)

Thanks for listening.

Open Mic #114

Have I mentioned how much I like this open mic?

Thanks for listening.

Wednesday, June 20th, I was at Mulligan’s Open Mic in Eugene Oregon.

I was there with my good friend Hans.

He took some pictures.

I was the last person on the list so I played for quite some time.

I played: “You’re A Big Girl Now” by Bob Dylan, “Ice Coffee” by Me, “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, “Woman In Paisley” by Me, “Home” by Me, “7 Years” by Me, “Girls On Bike” by Me and “Big City” by Me.

It was kind of a slow night, Hans played a song on his fiddle that he had never played before.

He scrolled down some notes on a napkin that didn’t make any sense to me at all.

Good times.

Thanks for listening.

Open Mic #112

Wednesday, June 13th 2012, I was at Mulligan’s Open Mic.

I played: “Heart & Soul/Untitled #6” by Me, “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga, “After All” by Me and “Creep” by Radiohead

Someone told me that I remind them of Kurt Cobain. I told them that I would take that as a compliment.

Thanks for listening.
