David P. Miller Benefit at Art Of Glass

Yesterday I had the honor of playing a benefit for a local artist named David P. Miller.

I’ve never met David but from what I understand he sounds like a pretty cool dude.

He was not able to attend the benefit because he is in poor health.

You can read more about the event at the link below:

http://eugenedailynews.com/2011/07/30/benefit-for-local-artist-battling-cancer/

The event was organized by Peter Herley another local artist and friend of David’s.

Peter sold his original artwork at the event to raise funds.

I’m a really big fan of Peter’s artwork.

In fact I now have one of his smaller pieces hanging on my wall in my studio.

I especially appreciate his use of color.

It really is a shame that David was not able to attend the benefit. I was really looking forward to meeting him.

There was a book where people could write messages to him and I did my best but I’m sure it turned out sounding kind of awkward and lame.

I have pretty bad hand writing and I don’t feel like I communicate as well without the crutch of the spell check.

Playing in a glass gallery is a little bit strange.

Here is a picture of Peter Herley introducing my last song, a cover of Bob Dylan’s One More Cup Of Coffee:

You can find a video of me playing this song at the link below:

There were a lot of other really cool performers that played this event too and I really wish that I had been able to stick around to see them all  but I had to cut out kind of early because I good friend of mine was having a show at the W.O.W. Hall.

I’m very grateful to have been a part of this event and I’m so glad that Peter asked me to play it.

Thanks to everyone who came out!

Thanks to Marc Time for his great introduction, thanks to The Art Of Glass for hosting and thanks to all the other performers and artists who participated in this event!

Teatime For David P. Miller

I’m playing a benefit tomorrow night for David P. Miller a local artist.

It’s at Art Of Glass in Eugene Oregon.

There was an piece about the event in the Eugene Weekly (A free local paper).

They said my music is:  ”refreshingly raw and eerie without being sorrowful and melodramatic.”

Anyways, I’m really excited about the show!

There will also be music by Don Haugen (industrial noise), FRANTIC (jazz/noise duo) and also a live performance piece by Peter Hurley (local artist).

This is going to be an awesome event and it’s for a really good cause!

David P. Miller has been battling brain cancer for the last two years and all proceeds will go toward his medical expenses.

Starts at 5:30pm and costs $5 or more at the door.

Art Of Glass is located at 790 Blair Blvd in Eugene Oregon.

Open Mic #69

July, 27th 2011

I was at Mulligan’s Open Mic in Eugene Oregon.

Sometimes I think about writing a novel about this open mic.

There is so much material to explore and such great characters.

I would call it “Open Mic Night at The End Of The Universe”.

I’ll let that idea simmer for a while… ;-)

Tonight I had the pleasure of hearing some very talented local musicians such as:

Steve Ibach, Tara Stonecipher and Robert Meade.

When it was my turn to get up and play I played:

It Ain’t Me Babe” by Bob Dylan, “Urge” by Daniel Johnston, “Stand Alone” by Bunny Wailer and “MJ” by Me.

Good times.

Open Mic #68

July, 25th 2011.

I was at Hot Mama’s Wings in Eugene Oregon.

I showed up kind of late and was not able to play (even though I was on the list.)

So it goes sometimes I suppose.

It wouldn’t have happened if the list was organized by time slots instead of numbers.

Just sayin’ ;-)

Thanks for listening.

Just do it.

Go do something you’ve never done before.
Go do something you’ve always been too afraid to do.
Follow your dreams.
Always believe in your self, especially when you feel that others don’t.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.
Remember to follow love not fear.

Open Mic #67

July, 20th, 2011

I headed down to Mulligan’s Open Mic to play some music.

Sandy B was there with his 88 keys.

I really like his music.

He’s in Poli High, a local band that I hear is very good.

Tonight I wasn’t really sure I was going to go to the open mic until I just put on my shoes and walked down there.

I considered bringing my new Yamaha Portasound but decided to just stick with the acoustic guitar.

I sat at the bar most of the night and watched and listened to the music and the conversations in the bar.

I played some pinball with Cris Hardy.

Brian Reed gave me a hug and told me he loved me during my set. ;-)

I saw some people play that I had never seen before.

Mostly pretty girls.

When it was my turn to play I played:

“Invisible Movement” by John Frusciante, “Lost Words” by Me, “After All” by Me, “Dying Song” by John Frusciante and “Creep” by Radiohead.

I got to play a slightly longer set tonight because I was one of the last people to play.

It was really fun! People were really nice! Especially Brian Reed who gave me a hug and told me he loved me after I played After All. ;-)

It’s nights like these I’m grateful that I was ever brave enough to take my music outside of the house.

Now if only I wasn’t so shy about talking to people…

Thanks for listening.
