I have decided to get out of my little room and play more open mic’s around town.
Today I played two in a row!
First it was The Monroe St Cafe.
It was pretty nice, it’s a small room and there is no mic so you really have to sing your heart out but there were a fair amount of people there even though I played the second slot.
I thought I did a pretty good job until my guitar strap failed and I almost dropped my guitar on the ground.
Despite the malfunctions I managed to recover gracefully and continued my song.
After playing three songs to a very attentive audience, I headed over to Mulligan’s where my good friend Amblin runs the show.
He makes it sound really good and it kind of makes up for the fact that it kind of feels like an airport bar.
I even had the pool sharks listening for my last number, a cover of One More Cup of Coffee by Bob Dylan.
It feels really good to perform again, I’ve missed it.
It feels like such a deeper level of communication than just talking to someone, when the audience is in the song with me it feels so good, it feels like we’re all making the music together.
I will do my best to document my future experience as I continue to explore the local open mic’s and performing in general.
Thanks for listening!
